Real Estate, BS
The real estate concentration consists of one required course (REAL 2090: Real Estate Investment: Analysis and Financing) and three electives. While the required course focuses on the financial and economic aspects of real estate investments, the electives allow students to explore a variety of issues related to real estate. These include real estate development, the legal aspects of real estate investment and financing, the relationship between government policy and real estate development, entrepreneurial approaches to real estate, real estate markets and investing around the globe, residential housing markets, the economics of cities, data analytics applied to the real estate sector, and the changing role of technological disruptions in the real estate industry. Several of the courses satisfy bracket requirements.
The real estate concentration prepares students to be leaders in the real estate industry and provides the quantitative and qualitative tools necessary for their roles in shaping the future of the industry. To keep students informed of current issues in Real Estate, the Real Estate Department and Samuel Zell and Robert Lurie Real Estate Center sponsor conferences, seminars, and special programs on vital public policy issues relevant to the field.

For students who take ECON 0100 Introduction to Micro Economics and ECON 0200 Introductory Economics: Macro in place of BEPP 1000 Introductory Economics for Business Students: one of these courses can be used to satisfy BEPP 1000 on the degree audit. The second course may be used to fulfill a Liberal Arts & Sciences or Unrestricted Elective requirement.

Beginning with capstones offered in Fall 2027, all students must complete all business fundamentals as a prerequisite for the senior capstone, in addition to the Leadership Journey courses and any other required prerequisite course(s).

If the student pursues concentrations in both Finance and Real Estate and elects to use REAL 2090/FNCE 2090 towards their Finance concentration, the student must then complete an additional REAL elective (in place of REAL 2090) from the approved concentration courses to complete the Real Estate concentration requirements.
