Master of Fine Arts + Master of Landscape Architecture

The Master of Fine Arts/Master of Landscape Architecture dual-degree at the Weitzman School of Design invites students to combine interests in both fields by earning two degrees in four years in a total of 38 credits (15 credits in Fine Arts and 23 credits in Landscape Architecture).

The Master of Landscape Architecture degree, including when it is completed as part of a dual-degree program, is STEM-designated.

The first year of the dual-degree program is spent completing the standard foundation year requirements of the MLA degree. In years two, three, and four, students take a combination of MLA and MFA courses. Therefore, students should apply to both degrees simultaneously, or apply to the MFA program while in their first year of the MLA program. Students who begin in the MFA program and wish to apply to the MLA in their first year of study should first talk to both program directors. It may not be possible to complete the dual degree, or in cases where it is deemed possible, it may take more than four years and 38 credits to complete.

Students are awarded both degrees in the same term when they finish all requirements.
