Clinical Ethics Mediation, Certificate

Program Overview

The Department of Medical Ethics & Health Policy offers the Penn MBE Clinical Ethics Mediation Certificate. The Certificate may be added to the Master of Bioethics degree and provides students and alumni with the opportunity to obtain additional training in clinical ethics mediation at Penn.

Eligibility
This certificate option is available only to students who are enrolled in or have completed the Master of Bioethics (MBE) program.

Application
Students interested in pursuing the combined MBE/Clinical Ethics Mediation Certificate must submit an application for the Certificate program in addition to the application for the MBE. The Certificate application may be completed at the time of the original MBE application or after admission to the MBE program. Admission is based on professional goals related to clinical ethics. Prior experience in clinical ethics is not required.

Program Completion and Timing
Students may complete the MBE and the Certificate concurrently and be awarded both in the same semester. Alternatively, students may graduate with the MBE and complete the Certificate requirements at a later date. Students who do not complete both credentials concurrently are encouraged to work with the MBE office to develop a plan for completion. Students who graduate before completing all Certificate requirements will have up to two years to complete the remaining coursework. MBE alumni who have not completed any Certificate coursework may apply for the Penn MBE Clinical Ethics Mediation Certificate within five years of receiving their MBE degree.
